The LeanBack Soul Food story began with a passion for creating exceptional culinary experiences. Our founder, Crissy Boney, had a vision of bringing the flavors of her childhood to a wider audience, and she set out to create a catering company that would do just that.

Officially founded in October of 2016, LeanBack Soul Food, LLC is now proud to be serving North Carolina and its awesome natives. From small family gatherings to large corporate events, our team quickly built a reputation for exceptional culinary experiences and personalized service. Delivering that feeling after you ate some mouth-watering food, all you can do is lean back in your chair and daydream about the incredible experience you just enjoyed!

Crissy Boney is a chef, community nourisher, and the heart behind LeanBack Soul Food Catering. Known for her signature blend of comfort, culture, and care, Crissy has built a culinary journey centered on feeding people in every sense of the word. Proudly married to H.L. Boney, she draws strength, support, and inspiration from her family & friends as she continues to pour into the communities she serves.

From corporate catering and childcare meals to large-scale community givebacks, Crissy uses food as a bridge, bringing people together, restoring dignity, and creating moments of joy through every plate she serves.

Her passion for service has led her to partner with organizations across the Triad, including her ongoing healthy cooking classes with Cone Health, where she teaches families how to create nutritious meals that are still full of flavor and soul.

Crissy’s work has earned her widespread recognition. She has been honored for her community leadership, celebrated for her culinary excellence, and spotlighted for her dedication to food equity and service.

She has been named the Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. 2021 recipient of the Winston Under 40 Leadership Award, the 2021 Triad Minority Women Business Newcomer of the Year, Black Business Ink 40 Under 40 Most Influential African Americans in the Triad, just to name a few.

Her impact even caught national attention, leading to her feature in the UPS Unstoppable Campaign, which highlighted entrepreneurs and leaders who are driving real change in their communities.

Through her weekly and monthly meal givebacks, Crissy has fed thousands of neighbors, seniors, families, and individuals in need, showing that compassion and good food can transform lives.

Whether she’s serving in the kitchen, teaching in the classroom, or pouring into her community, Crissy’s mission remains the same: to inspire, uplift, and nourish people one meal at a time. Her food is love, her work is purpose, and her impact is felt far beyond the plate.
